Newcastle United interested in Khephren Thuram

Newcastle United have reportedly made an approach to sign OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram.

The Magpies are eager to bring Thuram to St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window, but they will need to act swiftly in order to edge out Chelsea in the race for the 22-year-old’s signature.

Journalist Rudy Galetti, as cited by GIVEMESPORT states that the Magpies are looking to expedite the process of securing the Frenchman, who has had a fantastic season, resulting in increased interest from across Europe as one of the most highly sought-after young defensive midfielders.

While Thuram’s contract with the Ligue 1 outfit is set to expire in 2025, it is widely expected that the youngster will leave the club this summer.

Consequently, Chelsea are engaged in negotiations for a potential move to Stamford Bridge for Thuram, who can operate both as a central midfielder and as a defensive midfielder.

The Blues are planning a significant overhaul of their midfield this summer, including the departure of midfielders whose contracts are expiring or who do not fit into the club’s long-term plans.

Therefore, they will need to make fresh additions to strengthen their midfield department. Thuram features on Chelsea’s shortlist of midfield targets, along with players like Romeo Lavia, Manu Kone, and Adrien Rabiot.

Newcastle United currently have a strong chance of finishing in the top four this season, although they still need two wins from their remaining three games to guarantee it. If they achieve this, it is widely expected that it would lead to increased spending at the club.
