Bayer Leverkusen interested in signing Nat Phillips

Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Bayer Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old impressed for the Reds last season but could struggle for regular football in the upcoming season due to the return of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez from injury.

Ibrahima Konate’s arrival has also certainly pushed Phillips further down the pecking order, and a number of English clubs have been credited with an interest.

West Ham United, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley are all thought to be keen on the Englishman’s signature in the current market.

However, according to Sky Sports News, the Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen are firmly in the race for the centre-back, who played for Stuttgart on loan during the 2019-20 campaign.

Phillips, who is under contract with Liverpool until June 2023, has contributed one goal and one assist in 20 appearances for the club during the 2020-21 season.
