Atletico Madrid are reportedly keen to edge out Arsenal in the race to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

The 22-year-old midfielder was strongly linked with a move to the Gunners over the past two transfer windows, but a move did not materialise and he stayed put at the Groupama Stadium.

The Frenchman ultimately chipped in with seven goals and three assists from 30 top flight appearances last term.

The North Londoners have supposedly revived their interest in Aouar, but according to Le 10 Sport, Atletico have taken the lead in the race to sign the midfielder’s services.

Aouar has a contract at Les Gones until 2023.
