Manchester City still want to sign Lionel Messi

Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi Lille is still a target for the Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Messi’s contract with the Catalan giants is due to expire at the end of June, meaning – he will be leaving Camp Nou on a free transfer.

A recent report claimed that Barcelona are lining up a lifetime deal for the 33-year-old, though, with City’s chances of signing the striker thought to be fading.

Pep Guardiola’s side have also recently been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund attacker Erling Braut Haaland as they bid to sign a replacement for Sergio Aguero.

However, according to The Sun, City are still interested in signing Messi and have not given up hope of luring him to the Etihad Stadium later this year.

Messi has again been in scintillating form for Barca this term, contributing 29 goals and 13 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions.
