Marseille defender Hiroki Sakai is reportedly the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Sky Sports News.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on strengthening his squad in the coming weeks after going through the last two windows without making a first-team addition.

The Argentine boss has targeted a number of areas of the pitch, due to speculation regarding Kieran Trippier’s future at the north London stadium.

Sakai, 29, has made 27 appearances in Ligue 1 during the most recent campaign, but Marseille are reportedly open to selling players this summer after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

The Japan international has enjoyed a successful season with the French outfit, where he made five assists in 32 appearances.
