Liverpool set to launch fresh move for Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool are considering a renewed bid to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in January, The Daily Mirror reports.

The Reds are ready to make a fresh transfer move for Virgil van Dijk in the new year – but could face stiff competition from the league rivals Manchester City.

The Merseyside giants will begin fresh talks on a move for the Dutchman after having failed to secure him in the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Kloop’s side were heavily linked with a move to land Van Dijk early in the summer but were forced to withdraw their interest after they were accused of an illegal approach by Southampton.

The report adds, with January transfer window is just around the corner, there is already speculation rife that Liverpool could swoop for the 26-year-old defender in the coming weeks.

However, the report also suggests that the move could be done by Manchester City as the club are now considering defensive recruitment following John Stones’ hamstring injury.

The Merseyside outfit are currently preparing for their Champions League action to Sevilla on Tuesday night.
