Manchester United are preparing to reignite their chase for Leicester City midfielder Louis Page after deadline-day negotiations broke down, according to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic. The Red Devils are expected to return with a fresh offer in January, when there will be more room to negotiate terms for the highly-rated teenager.

Page, who has already made 26 senior appearances for the Foxes, was one of several young prospects United targeted over the summer as they looked to blend squad reinforcements with promising academy-ready talent.

Why the Deadline Day Deal Collapsed

United were reportedly willing to pay up to £10 million for Page, but Leicester’s valuation shifted at the last minute, with the Foxes pushing for £12 million plus £3 million in add-ons. The gap proved too wide to bridge before the window shut. Leicester boss’s decision to start Page against Plymouth Argyle was widely read as the clearest sign the move was dead — for now.

Old Trafford Remains the Preferred Destination

Despite the setback, United’s interest hasn’t cooled. Whitwell’s report notes that Page turned down interest from Arsenal during the summer, reportedly holding out for a switch to Old Trafford instead. That preference could give United real leverage when talks resume in the new year.

A Midfield Already Reshaped

Page, valued around £15 million, was never expected to be an instant fix. Instead, he was seen as a squad player who could develop behind United’s more established options. The club has already rebuilt its midfield this summer following Casemiro’s exit and Manuel Ugarte’s ACL setback, bringing in Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans.
