Arsenal positive about signing Mikel Merino

Arsenal’s pursuit of Mikel Merino is heating up as the Gunners aim to bolster their midfield ahead of the new season. According to reports, the North London club are optimistic about securing a deal with Real Sociedad for the Spanish international, who has been a standout performer since his move from Newcastle in 2018.

Merino had an impressive campaign last season, contributing eight goals and five assists in 45 appearances, and playing a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph. With less than a year remaining on his contract, the 27-year-old midfielder seems poised for a return to the Premier League, with Arsenal leading the chase.

Concerns over a potential move for Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi to Liverpool had initially raised doubts about Merino’s availability. However, those fears have subsided, and Arsenal now appear confident of finalising the transfer. Mikel Arteta sees Merino as a key addition, capable of forming a formidable midfield partnership with Declan Rice, especially given the uncertainty surrounding Thomas Partey’s future.

As talks continue between Arsenal and Sociedad, it seems only a matter of time before Merino dons the red and white of Arsenal, marking a significant reinforcement for the club.
