Tottenham Hotspur interested in Joan Garcia

Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position to sign RCD Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, ahead of rivals Arsenal and Real Madrid. According to ElDesmarque, Spurs see the 23-year-old Spanish goalkeeper as an ideal contender to challenge Guglielmo Vicario for the number one spot.

Garcia, who has been with Espanyol since being promoted to their first team in 2021, shone last season, especially during the playoff matches that saw his team return to La Liga. With four years left on his contract, Espanyol’s owners, the Rastar Group, are ready to cash in on the talented shot-stopper, setting a €25 million release clause.

Real Madrid have identified Garcia as a potential successor to Andriy Lunin, who is likely to depart due to his unwillingness to play second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois. Similarly, Arsenal are in the market for a new goalkeeper after David Raya’s arrival demoted Aaron Ramsdale, pushing him towards an exit.

Despite interest from these giants, Tottenham have moved swiftly, already initiating talks with Espanyol. Spurs believe Garcia could be pivotal in fortifying their goalkeeping options, making them favourites to secure his signature. Arsenal and Madrid will need to act fast if they are to sway Garcia from a potential North London move.
