Manchester City target Rodrigo Riquelme

Manchester City have expressed a strong interest in signing 23-year-old Atlético Madrid winger Rodrigo Riquelme as reported by AS via Sport Witness.

Riquelme, who has been with Los Rojiblancos since his youth days, has garnered attention from various European clubs due to his recent performances.

Although the 23-year-old was promoted to Atletico’s first team in 2020, he has struggled to secure regular playing time and has been sent out on multiple loan moves, including one to Bournemouth. During the 2022-23 season, the Spaniard impressed while on loan at Girona, featuring in 35 matches and contributing with five goals and four assists.

Now back at his parent club, Riquelme’s future is set to be decided in the coming weeks. The Red and Whites are considering either selling him during the summer transfer window or including him in their first-team plans for the next season.

Atletico manager Diego Simeone is a big admirer of Riquelme and wants to utilise his potential in the upcoming campaign.

Although there is significant interest in the player’s services from clubs in Spain, Manchester City are currently leading the race. The Premier League champions have been monitoring the winger and are keen on acquiring him.

However, the player’s future also hinges on his performance during the pre-season camp and potential interest from other clubs.
