Newcastle United are reportedly set to battle with Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie.

According to Football Insider, Spurs have been in discussions in relation to a potential January transfer.

BILD has suggested that a bid of €25m has been proposed to Die Werkself.

Football Insider says that the Magpies are also monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation ahead of potentially enhancing their defence.

The report adds that the Tyneside outfit prefer to wait until the summer to bring Hincapie to St James’ Park, although is something which seemingly cannot be guaranteed given the level of Tottenham’s interest.

The Ecuadorian still has three-and-a-half years left on his contract.
