Should You Get An Offroad Electric Bike?

An offroad electric bike is not that different from a regular ebike. The main difference is that offroad electric bikes are specifically designed to ride on a wide variety of rough terrains such as dirt roads, gravel paths, uphill, or on some epic backroads adventure.  When considering an offroad electric bike, you should probably consider what you will be using it for.

Ebike vs. Offroad Electric Bike

As mentioned before, the only difference between a regular ebike and an offroad electric bike is that an offroad electric bike is specially designed for daring riders who want to go on wild, wacky rough terrain adventures. Regular ebikes are more for beginners who are just starting out with electric bicycles or just want a way to go a little further without getting tired out. Regular ebikes can handle obstacles like going uphill and the occasional rough terrain, but only every once in a while.

The Make of an Ebike

If you thinking about getting an offroad electric bike, you must first understand how a regular ebike works. Ebikes are said to work just like a regular bike. The electric component of the ebike is only supposed to augment human power, not completely replace it. Another advantage of the ebike is that it was designed to be easy to operate.

There are 3 different types of ebikes.

  • Pedal Only: Having the pedal allows the rider to be able to operate the bike manually at any time. This makes it perfect for beginners or people that just want a little flair with a regular bike. A pedal ebike will come in either 3 or 8 gears.
  • Pedal Assist: Pedal assist ebikes gives you the combined advantages of human and electric power. The motor will run gently as you pedal and you can switch gears as the terrain changes. There are 3 different levels of assistance available: low (30%), medium (60%), and high (100%).
  • Electric Only:  The motor on the completely electric versions of ebikes let you sit back and relax while it does all of the work. To activate the electric only mode, just twist the throttle located on the left handlebar. You’ll have to keep it turned to continue moving or you can let go if you want to pedal on your own.

The bottom line about deciding to buy an offroad electric bike is what you are using it for. Additionally, they are making some interesting strides with the manufacturing of offroad electric bikes.  But the main question is are you a beginner or are you ready to go on an adventure?
