Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira has joined the Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan deal.

The Uruguay international arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Sampdoria in 2018 and was consistently linked with a return to Italy during the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old found himself surplus to requirements at the Emirates and has fallen down the pecking order behind Granit Xhaka, Dani Ceballos and Mohamed Elneny this season.

Torreira has now put pen to paper on a season-long loan with Los Rojiblancos on the deadline day.

The Uruguayan has made 29 appearances in the English top flight last season but has struggled to establish himself in North London since the start of the 2020/21 campaign.
