Real Madrid are reportedly keen to edge out La Liga rivals Barcelona in the race to sign Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez.

The 23-year-old striker has long been linked with a move to the Nou Camp, although a recent report claimed that the Catalan giants are close to throwing in the towel in their pursuit of the Argentine for the time being.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Ronald Koeman’s side have supposedly been reluctant to trigger Martinez’s €111m release clause, with Luis Suarez set to depart during the current transfer window.

However, according to Sport Mediaset, Los Blancos have stolen a march in the race for Martinez and have offered the Serie A giants €100m plus Luka Jovic on loan as a sweetener.

Martinez has a contract at San Siro Stadium until the summer of 2023.

The South American has scored 21 goals and provided seven assists for Inter in all competitions during the 2019-20 campaign.
