Newcastle United have reportedly expressed an interest in making an audacious move for Manchester United attacker Juan Mata, according to The Sun.

The 31-year-old will see his current deal with the Red Devils expire at the end of next month.

The Spaniard is widely expected to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer, and the Spanish champions Barcelona have been credited with an interest in the veteran attacker.

However, the aforementioned report claims, Newcastle United will move for Mata if Rafael Benitez stays on as head coach.

Mata scored six goals and provided four assists in 32 appearances for Man United during the 2018-19 campaign.
