Hampshire sign Dale Steyn for 2018 season

South Africa’s fast bowler Dale Steyn has signed with English county side Hampshire as an overseas player for the 2018 season.

The 34-year-old speedster will be available to the club in two windows, first in June, for one 50-over match and one County Championship fixture, and then during the later part of the domestic season following South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka in July.

The veteran pacer has took 419 Test wickets in 86 matches, including impressive 26 five-wicket hauls at an average of 22.32.

“Dale is one of the best bowlers in the world and is extremely motivated to get going after a frustrating period on the sidelines,” said Giles White, Hampshire’s director of cricket.

“It seems a great fit for both parties – we hope that we can help him get back to his best and we look forward to welcoming him to Hampshire.”

Steyn has previously played for Warwickshire in the 2007 season. He also represented Essex in 2005 when he claimed 14 wickets at 59.85.
