Royal Ascot 2014: Slade Power wins the Diamond Jubilee

Favourite Slade Power ridden by Wayne Lordan wins the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on the final day of Royal Ascot.

The five-year-old colt looked excellent throughout the race and claimed the victory with a length-and-a-half ahead of runner-up Due Diligence with Aljamaaheer finishing third under Paul Hanagan.

He travelled real well, I got there a little bit soon and he rolled around with me, but I had plenty left and I’m delighted,” jockey Lordan said.

The victory brings a sprint double for Irish trainer Eddie Lynam at Royal Ascot, who celebrated Sole Power’s win in the King Stand Stakes on Tuesday.

Slade Power will now head to the final British leg of the Global Sprint Challenge at Darley July Cup, starting on 12 July at Newmarket.
