Manchester United have reportedly enquired about the availability of Barcelona attacker Ivan Rakitic, according to Spanish publication Sport.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Spanish champions at the end of the season after discussions over a contract extension stalled.
Rakitic’s agent has ruled out the possibility of his client leaving the Camp Nou this summer, but that has not prevented interested suitors from keeping tabs on his situation.
The report claims that Manchester United have now joined Premier League rivals Chelsea in the race for the Croatia international’s signature.
Meanwhile, other European heavyweights such as Juventus, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich are also credited with an interest and could challenge the English clubs in a bidding war in the summer transfer window.
It is understood that, Rakitic remains keen to stay at the La Liga giants, but Ernesto Valverde’s side have no intention of offering him an extension to his current deal, which is valid until 2021.
Rakitic racked up 34 appearances for Barcelona so far this season.
