Kumar Sangakkara named as Sri Lanka selector

In a press release, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have revealed that former Sri Lanka wicket-keeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara has been appointed as the national selection committee member by the sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara.

Former Sri Lanka skipper Aravinda de Silva will be the new head of selection committee which will take charge with immediate effect.

“The appointment of the National Selection Committee was carried out by the Honorable Minister citing recent failures encountered by the National Team in their Tours to New Zealand, India, Asia Cup in Bangladesh and the inconsistency of selection criteria,” read as the SLC release.

The World T20 defending champions Sri Lanka will begin their ICC World Twenty20 campaign with a match against the qualifying team on 17th March.

Before heading to the Super 10 stage of the World T20 tournament, Sri Lanka will play two warm-up games against New Zealand and Pakistan on 10th and 14th March respectively.
