Tottenham accelerate Ruben Vargas transfer chase

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of Sevilla forward Ruben Vargas, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Spurs eye more firepower

The North London club strengthened their attack over the summer, bringing in Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, and Randal Kolo Muani. Muani arrived on loan from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day, though without an option to buy. While the Frenchman is still regaining match fitness, Simons has already made an impact, providing an assist in Spurs’ 3-0 victory over West Ham United.

Despite these additions, Tottenham remain in the market for another forward. Vargas has emerged as a prime target, with his recent La Liga form catching the eye of Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Competition and Sevilla’s stance

Spurs have been closely monitoring the 27-year-old’s progress and are now stepping up efforts to strike a deal. Sevilla would prefer to keep Vargas, who only joined from FC Augsburg in January and is tied down until 2029. However, the Spanish side may be tempted to sell if a significant offer arrives.

The Switzerland international is open to a Premier League switch, but Aston Villa are also in the race—potentially complicating Tottenham’s pursuit.

Why Vargas fits the bill

Since moving to Spain, Vargas has impressed with his versatility and creativity. He contributed four goals last season and has started the current campaign strongly, registering three assists in as many league games. Comfortable both on the left flank and in a central role, his adaptability could add valuable depth to Tottenham’s attacking options.

What’s next for Spurs?

Whether Spurs make a concrete bid in January or wait until next summer remains to be seen. For now, Thomas Frank’s side—who have collected nine points from their opening four Premier League matches—will turn their attention to the Champions League, where they face Villarreal in midweek.
