Liverpool join race to sign Jarrad Branthwaite

Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the battle to sign highly-rated Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite this summer, according to Sky Sports News.

The 22-year-old was a key target for United last year, with the club agreeing on personal terms with Branthwaite. However, a deal ultimately fell through when Everton stood firm on their £70m asking price, far higher than United’s £50m offer.

Now, it appears Liverpool are keen to swoop in for the talented defender, who is reportedly open to leaving Goodison Park at the end of the season. Branthwaite has set his sights on a spot in England’s World Cup squad and feels that moving on from Everton could help secure a place in Gareth Southgate’s plans.

United are still in the hunt for a left-footed centre-back, especially after Lisandro Martinez’s knee injury, which could keep him sidelined for the remainder of the year. With both clubs eyeing Branthwaite, the race for his signature promises to be one of the summer’s most exciting transfer sagas.
