Man United retain interest in Denzel Dumfries?
Manchester United reportedly still hold an interest in signing Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.
The Red Devils have been linked to numerous right-backs as they have struggled to find a consistent performer in that position. However, this season, the situation seems to have improved with both Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka impressing when given the opportunity by manager Erik ten Hag.
During the first half of the campaign, Dalot particularly shone, which earned him a place in Portugal’s World Cup squad and potentially a new contract with the club.
Since December, Wan-Bissaka has been given more opportunities to showcase his skills and has become the preferred option over the more attacking-minded Dalot. However, if Dalot signs a new contract as expected, United may choose to focus on strengthening other areas of their squad before the 2023-24 season.
That being said, the 20-time English champions may still consider pursuing their long-term targets if the opportunity arises for a marquee signing. Football Insider reports that Ten Hag remains interested in bringing in Dumfries to bolster his squad.
The 26-year-old has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season and has represented the Netherlands five times at the World Cup.
Although Dumfries is a valued member of Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan squad, the Dutchman could be sold for the right price as he only has a contract until 2025.
