Bournemouth vs. Leicester City Preview
It had been a horrific Premier League campaign for Leicester City up until the Nottingham Forrest game. So many Leicester fans might not have mustered the courage to watch the game and followed it through football live scores updates instead. But the Foxes finally put their endless run to the sword at the expense of the Trees. Manager Brendan Rodgers hopes the newfound confidence of his team will lead Leicester to another victory when they visit the Vitality Stadium to face another newly promoted side Bournemouth.
Leicester had been on a six-match losing streak in the Premier League ahead of the Nottingham game. Under normal circumstances, Nottingham Forest is an opponent Leicester fans would have deemed beatable. But the team’s dreadful form made it difficult to anticipate that it would be an easy win for Leicester.
The Foxes needed to get off to a good start if they were to get anything from the game, and they did exactly that. James Maddison, who has been a joy to watch this season regardless of Leicester’s struggles, bagged a first-half brace, which ultimately set the course of the game. The final scoreline read 4-0, giving Leicester their first clean-sheet of the season as well.
Brendan Rodgers would want his side to build on this performance, particularly from a defensive perspective. Leicester did not have much trouble scoring goals. A leaking defence has been their primary cause of concern, and the clean-sheet would have surely been the most assuring thing Leicester took from the game.
Gary O’Neil had taken charge of Bournemouth on an interim basis after the club sacked Scott Parker in reaction to the Cherries’ 9-0 defeat to Liverpool. While Bournemouth continues to search for Parker’s successor, O’Neil has done a commendable job so far. Under O’Neil’s watch, Bournemouth are yet to lose a match in the Premier League. They have shared the spoils with Wolves, Newcastle, and Brentford. In the other match, they came back from City Ground with a fantastic 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest.
Brendan Rodgers will not be keen on breaking the winning starting lineup, but he will have to pick a plan B for Wilfred Ndidi. Ndidi picked up a hamstring problem and might stay out of action for weeks. Nampalys Mendy is also a doubt as he struggles with a knee injury.
Bournemouth will have a massive injury boost as they will get back Ryan Fredericks, Joe Rothwell and Ben Pearson in the squad. Lloyd Kelly and Junior Stanislas will not be available, however.
The Vitality Stadium has not been a happy hunting ground for Leicester. They have never won in this stadium, and we don’t see them getting the better of a Bournemouth side that did not lose any of their last four Premier League matches. Our prediction for this match is a 1-1 draw.
