Chelsea have reportedly identified Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano as an alternative to Matthijs de Ligt, according to Website 90Min.

The Blues could look at Upamecano as a potential alternative if their prime target Matthijs de Ligt joins the Bavarians this summer.

The West London outfit could miss out on De Ligt after the German champions joined the race to sign the Dutchman in the current transfer window.

The report adds that Chelsea still hold an interest in signing their long-term target Jules Kounde but Thomas Tuchel’s side are still to agree a transfer fee with Sevilla for the Frenchman.

Chelsea are facing competition from Barcelona for Kounde but the Premier League giants are making progress on a deal for Nathan Ake from Manchester City.

90Min claim that Chelsea could be interested in a potential swoop for Upamecano if the 23-year-old defender is sacrificed to accommodate De Ligt’s arrival from Juventus.

The Bavarians would consider selling the Frenchman if they receive an offer somewhere in the region of €50m.

Upamecano has scored one goal in 38 matches for Bayern Munich in all competitions last season.
