Barcelona have reportedly placed emphasis on signing Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The Catalan giants are keeping a close eye on the Spain international, who potentially available on a free transfer next year.

The Spaniard remains a key player for the Blues, contributing three assists from 13 appearances in all competitions this season.

The 32-year-old’s contract is due to expire next June, though, Barca would be able to enter into discussions with the defender at the beginning of 2022.

According to ESPN, the La Liga giants are monitoring Azpilicueta’s situation, with the club’s new head coach Xavi particularly keen to bring the centre-back to the club on a free transfer.

Azpilicueta started his professional career with Osasuna before switching to Marseille in 2010 ahead of a move to Chelsea.
