Manchester United have reportedly entered talks with Villarreal over a possible summer swoop for Pau Torres, according to Tuttomercato.

Despite handing a new contract to Eric Bailly, the Red Devils are desperate to sign a new centre-back ahead of a new season.

Torres has been identified as the potential target, and they have now opened talks with the Spanish outfit for the centre-back.

The 24-year-old has a release clause worth £56m, which will become active during the summer.

The Yellow Submarines are prepared to negotiate a lesser fee for the Spain international if the Old Trafford outfit are willing to offer a player in exchange.

United are currently second in the Premier League table, and on course to secure Champions League football this term.

Meanwhile, Manchester City and Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on Torres, who is open to a fresh challenge.
