Is VAR good or bad for football?
Other than whether people want Liverpool to win the league or not, the introduction of VAR was one of the most discussed topics in all of football last season.
While it was used in some FA Cup games, it was not introduced across the whole of the Premier League. However, it will be introduced next season.
Will it be good for football?
Good for football
One of the main areas where it will improve the game is in helping to maintain the authority of the ref. A ref can make a decision knowing that if they have got it wrong, VAR will ensure that the correct call is made in the end.
That will give refs more confidence to make decisions as there is a safety net in place to fix any potential mistakes. It will also allow teams to have some assurance that they have not been cheated and therefore will give players more confidence in the decisions.
Bad for football
One of the major things VAR will hinder is the experience for fans. VAR will ruin that feeling. It will also take away from the fast-paced nature of the game, which is also one of the main reasons that football is the most popular game in the world.
