Mahela Jayawardene joins Lancashire for T20 Blast

Lancashire have announced the signing of the former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene for the upcoming England’s domestic Twenty20 competition – T20 Blast.

The 39-year-old has plenty of experience in the Twenty20 format of the game, scoring 5,455 runs for his country and helping them to the 2014 World T20 title.

The veteran batsman, who had previously played for Sussex and Somerset, has now agreed to play for the Red Rose this season.

Jayawardene told Lancashire’s official website, “I’m very excited about joining Lancashire Lightning for the NatWest T20 Blast this summer. Lancashire is a huge county with a fine history in the game. There is a young group of players at the Club and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to working with them and to be part of the T20 campaign this summer.

Jayawardene will likely to make his Lancs CCC debut on July 9 against Leicestershire at Emirates Old Trafford.
