The Portuguese has signed a three-year contract with the 20-time English champions with an option to stay until at least 2020.
The 53-year-old had been without a coaching job since December when he left the Blues following a run of disappointing performances in the Premier League.
However, Mourinho guided the west Londoners to the Premiership title during the 2014-15 campaign, but failed to retain the title in this past season.
From loved to hated. I hope you never win another game Jose Mourinho. #CFC

Mourinho will win a few trophies at United but he’ll leave them in turmoil in 3 years. Will be a complete shock if he doesn’t

In all honesty, I would rather have Conte as manager than Mourinho.
