The 29-year-old will replace West Indian Darren Sammy, who will leave the team midway to link-up with his international teammates at a training camp.
“The KFC T20 Big Bash League is a great competition,” Bresnan told Yorkshire’s official website. “I have been lucky enough to watch it over the last three of four years and I think it is great, they put on a proper show and I can’t wait to get a taste of it.”
Bresnan, who made his T20 debut against Sri Lanka at Southampton in 2006 – has scored 216 runs and took 24 wickets in 34 T20Is for his country.
The Hurricanes will kick off their T20 campaign against the Melbourne Stars on December 20.
