Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand on Newcastle United radar

Newcastle United have allegedly earmarked Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand as one of their top summer transfer targets.

The England international is tipped to be among Tottenham Hotspur’s top targets this summer, seen as the ideal replacement to fill the void expected to be left by Danny Rose.

Bertrand, who is valued at around £25m by the Saints, is also understood to be a target for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

According to report in The Express as quoted by The Sun, Newcastle are the latest side to show an interest in the 28-year-old defender, who is keen to quit the struggling Saints regardless of whether they beat the drop.

The Magpies boss Rafael Benitez is hoping to have the backing of owner Mike Ashley, with a proposed takeover at the St James’ Park unlikely to go through before next season.
