Arsenal close in on Sokratis Papastathopoulos deal

Arsenal have reportedly outlined their intentions to get a deal for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos this summer.

The Gunners are said to be hopeful of completing their first signing of the Unai Emery era, with Papastathopoulos is reportedly the subject of interest from the north Londoners.

Arsenal initially tabled £13m for the Greece international, according to The Telegraph, before returning with an improved £16m offer that should be enough to wind-up the transfer.

The 29-year-old defender could arrive in the coming days, making him the third player with BVB roots to arrive at the Emirates since former German chief Sven Mislintat joined last year.

The report goes on to claim that the Gunners intend to bring in at least one more defensive player ahead of next season.
